A growing number of piracy websites are taking advantage of the global popularity of Japanese manga to illegally sell foreign-language versions.

The Authorized Books of Japan says a survey conducted in February found more than 1,200 sites were offering pirated titles.

A Japanese drugmaker has apologized after its supplements led to widespread health concerns.
Kobayashi Pharmaceutical says several people died after using products that contain the ingredient known as “beni-koji.”
“I pray for the deceased and offer my deepest condolences to the bereaved families. We offer our most sincere apologies.”

「ご愁傷さまです」
I’m so sorry for your loss.

主に話し言葉での表現。
sorryのもともとの意味は、sad「悲しい」で、相手の気持ちに寄り添い、自分も悲しんでいることを伝える。
この場合のlossは、lose「失う」の名詞形で、「大切な方を亡くされたこと」という意味。
バリエーション例
I’m so sorry to hear about your loss.「このたびはご愁傷さまです」
「お悔やみ申し上げます」
Please accept my condolences.
フォーマルな言葉なので、書き言葉でもよく使われる。
condolenceとは、con-「共に」「悲しむこと」という意味。相手と「共に」自分も悲しんでいることが強調される。
condolencesと複数形で言うと、たくさん悲しんでいるニュアンスになるためか、複数形で使われることが多い。
そして、「誰が」相手と共に悲しんでいるのかを示すために、my condolences「私の（あなたと）共に悲しむさまざまな気持ち、弔意」のように、myやourを付けて表現する。
バリエーション例
・My condolences (to you and your family).「（あなたとご家族に）お悔やみ申し上げます。」
・Please accept my deepest condolences for you and your family’s loss.「あなたとご家族が大切な方を亡くされたことに対し、心からお悔やみ申し上げます。」
・I offer my deepest condolences to the families.「ご遺族の皆様に心からお悔やみ申し上げます。」

↓
アメリカなどでも、家に持ち帰って覚えておくほどに「大切なポイント」という意味で広く使われるようになった。
最初はビジネス英語の表現として使われるようになった模様。比較的新しい使い方なので、この意味がまだ載っていない辞書もある。
