【 豆知識：「イギリス」の呼び方 】
イギリスは、イングランド、スコットランド、ウェールズから成る「グレートブリテン」と、「北アイルランド」を合わせた連合王国。
なので正式名称は
the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland「グレートブリテン及び北アイルランド連合王国」
（略称は the United Kingdom、またはそれをさらに略した the U.K. ）
England
England（イングランド地方）は人口も面積もイギリス最大だが、上記の通りイギリスの一部にすぎない。
そのためイギリス全体を指してEnglandが使われることがあるが、正式な場面では間違いとされ、さらにはスコットランド、ウェールズ、北アイルランドの人々や歴史・文化を軽んじているように受け取られる可能性がある。
Britain
国際ニュースなどでよく使われるイギリスの通称だが、正式名称から分かる通りNorthern Ireland（北アイルランド）を含まないため、厳密にはイギリス全体を指していない。
従って、公的な場面では、the United Kingdomあるいはthe U.K.のどちらかを使うと、この国全体に敬意を払っていると受け取ってもらえるのではないか（by サム先生）。

ex) I have to keep working hard so I can play shogi that lives up to the Meijin name.

【 豆知識："challenge" は日本語の「チャレンジする」とは違う 】
動詞としての “challenge" は「戦いを挑む」という強い意味合いがある。なので日本語で言う軽い「チャレンジする」には使わない。
× I am going to challenge scuba diving next week.
〇 I am going to try scuba diving next week.
例
You need to challenge yourself more. 「さらに精いっぱいの努力をする必要がある」

米 国債の債務不履行を回避

・U.S. Senate：アメリカの議会上院 ※豆知識参照
・suspend：一時的に停止する
・debt ceiling：債務上限
※アメリカでは、政府が国債などを発行して借金できる上限が決められていて、債務上限を引き上げるには議会の承認が必要となる。
ex) In Washington, the U.S. Senate passed a bill suspending the government’s debt ceiling.
・bring back：連れ戻す
・economy：（国や組織などの）経済機構
・the world’s largest economy：世界最大の経済大国
・the brink：（主に悪い状態に入る）寸前、瀬戸際

と言っている。
