多読 33:King Arthur (Level:2)

フランスモノの次はイギリスモノ

読む予定リストに後から追加した新しい本たちのうち、レベル2のものはもうあと1冊残すのみとなっていた。
その他は、やはり追加したレベル3と、まだ到達していないレベル4以上の本。

その最後の1冊というのは、「King Arthur(アーサー王の伝説)」。
あまりよく知らないアーサー王だけど、「アーサー王と円卓の騎士」というフレーズはよく聞く。
イメージは、中華料理屋のテーブルみたいな大きな丸いテーブルの周囲に騎士たちがぞろっと座っているような・・・。

後は、ドラマ「魔術師マーリン」を途中まで観ていて大好きで、そこで色々な人物の名前を聞いている。
このドラマはアーサー王と、そのアーサー王を陰で助ける魔術師マーリンが主人公。でも大胆に脚色されていて、アーサー王の伝説からかなりアレンジされているみたいだから、実際の(?)伝説とは話が違う。
ドラマを観始める前に知るべきだった伝説を、ここで読むことにしよう。

本の感想(ネタバレ注意)

うーん。。。
まぁ伝説だから何でもいいんだけどねぇ・・・。
結局、奥さんの不倫をきっかけに衰退する王様の物語かぁ。
前回読んだ「三銃士」に出てくるフランス人たちに続き、ま~た騎士ランスロット(フランス人)も不倫。
フランス人たちはみんな不倫、不倫、不倫・・・。

挿絵がシブかった。
英文は結構読みやすく、いい文章で良かった。
でも知らない単語や表現がたくさんあり、文字数の割に量が多くて読了後に調べるのが大変だった。
分からなくてもおおよそ内容は理解したけれど。
でも面白かったかと言うと、はっきり言って全然面白くなかったので、もう後はドラマ「魔術師マーリン」の方のアレンジ版ストーリーで楽しむことにしよう。
目の保養になる美男美女の役者さんがいっぱい出ているし。
