<豆知識："King George VI" の読み方>

<豆知識：イギリスとイギリス連邦>
the United Kingdomのunitedは「統一された、結束された、連合した、団結した」という意味。
the United Kingdomは、もともと「連合王国」という意味で、日本で呼ばれるところの「イギリス」を指す。
正式名称は、the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland「グレートブリテン及び北部アイルランド連合王国」で、Great Britainには、England、Wales、Scotlandが含まれます。

the Commonwealthは「イギリス連邦、英連邦」。
イギリスとイギリスの植民地から独立した５０余りの国々から成る連合体のことで、正式名称はthe Commonwealth of Nations。
エリザベス女王は、イギリスのほか、カナダやオーストラリア、ニュージーランド、それにカリブ海諸国や南太平洋の国々など、イギリス連邦加盟国のうち１４の国と海外領土などの元首でもあり、イギリス国教会の首長も務めてきた。

<豆知識：Queen’s English>
エリザベス女王の発音は、一般にQueen’s Englishと呼ばれる。
王族や貴族が話す「保守的ＲＰ」（PR：Received Pronunciation「容認発音、通称ＲＰ」）と呼ばれる発音に分類される。この発音を話すのは一部の人に限られるため、イギリス英語の中でも非常に貴重。

<豆知識：「サービス」と “service" の違い>
service：「人に仕えること、奉仕」
　↓
国に仕えれば「公務」、軍に仕えれば「兵役」、客に仕えれば「サービス」、神に仕えれば「礼拝」
日本語の意味のような「無料、値引き、おまけ」といったニュアンスはない。
