2022年3月のNHK語学講座
今年度最後の英会話タイムトライアルの旅はWashington, D.C.州
今年度も、これで最後の月となった。
最後の旅がワシントンD.C.なのは納得。
場所が場所なので、当然大統領やホワイトハウスの話が出てきた。
ホワイトハウス見学ツアーのやりとりで、確か最初に「大統領のことはよく知らない」と言っていたのに、その後大統領本人に会ったら「あなたの大ファンです！！」と言っているのが・・・印象的だった。。。

seem + 形容詞
She seems thoughtful/considerate. ※思いやりのある：thoughtful / considerate
She seems honest.
seem like + 名詞
She seems like an honest person.
She seems like a good leader.
She seems like the right person for the job. ※適任な人：the right person for the job
ここでようやく新型コロナウィルスに関する表現が出てきた。
熱を測る表現は、eステーションの多聴教材にある「文法とチャンク」シリーズの「家事と子育て編」で一度覚えたのに、もうすっかり忘れていた。

コロナは “Covid-19" “Covid" どちらも使う。会話では “Covid" が一般的。
Since Covid-19, that pool has been closed.

※前者の方が一般的

次は恐竜博物館。
模擬会話でジェーンさん扮する恐竜博士少女と会話をする、というシチュエーションだったけれど、お手本でスティーブ先生が
“I’m サブロウ. My English name is Bob."
というので驚いた。イングリッシュネームの話なんてこの番組で初めて出てきたと思われる。
サブロウがBob・・・まぁ・・・分かったような分かんないような・・・。

I wonder if the gift shop is still open. ※stillの位置に注意

ここでスティーブ先生が唐突に「タイムスリップ」とか言い出したので目がテンになったが、博物館と絡めたかったらしい。

仮定法を使って

次はやっぱり桜の話題。
ワシントンD.C.は行ったことがないのでよく知らないけれど、桜が綺麗なのは知っている。
春らしくてちょうど良かったね！

次の 「初めて～した」」を"first + V" で表現するのは全く知らなかった。
まだ慣れないので練習しないと。でもとても便利だと思った。

それは「～で良かった」「～が出来るようになった」。おぉ、見事ピッタリ！

「～が出来るようになった」
「出来るようになった」というより「やり方を習った」は “learn how to"
In Wisconsin, I learned how to explain Japanese food.
In Louisiana, I learned how to use binoculars.
I’ve learned a lot while I traveled across the U.S.
ということで、2021年度のタイムトライアルが終了。
“I’m so happy I could listen to all lessons this year." と、使ってみる。
