<the＋形容詞>
"the young" （若者）のように集団を表す
ex) The rich are somewhat stingy.
ex) The Japanese are considered very serious.
ex) The number of the homeless is increasing.
ex) The adolescent often have conflicts with their parents.
ex) It is natural for the strong to protect the weak.
<単数と複数>
・複数が関わるもの → 複数形
ex) I made friends with Katie.
ex) The Japanese bow while we shake hands.
ex) Did you get a direct flight or did you have to change planes?
・塊で捉えるもの → 単数形
ex) The Suzuki family is a big family.
ex)Ten miles is a long way to walk.
ex) Five feet is quite short in America.
・いつもペアのもの → 複数形
ex) “jeans" “glasses" “scissors" “gloves" “pajamas" “shoes"
※"a pair of ～" の後ろは単数形

レッスンの感想
タイミングが合ったので、とても久し振りにセルビアのM先生のレッスンを受けた。
前回は１月ということで随分空いたので、どんな感じのレッスンだったか忘れていた。
教え慣れている感じで明るくざっくばらんな雰囲気が魅力の先生だった。
今回の内容もとてもタメになった。
英語の日記などを書いていると迷ったり間違えたりする、とても文法っぽい内容だ。
そして気が付くと、文法の中級編はあと一つの内容で全部網羅するようだ。
中上級編の方を少し見てみると、句動詞の勉強らしい。なので本当に文法ルールの勉強としてはあと１個。
結構よくレッスンを取ったと思うけど、ここまでに半年以上掛かっているんだなぁ・・・。
