【ポイント】
<Direct Speech (直接話法) の場合>
1. He says to me, “I love you.”
2. He said to me, “I hate you.”
3. The secretary said to Ben, “Your son called. He is going to be in town next week.”
<Reported Speech (間接話法) の場合>
1. He says (that) he loves me.
2. He said (that) he hated me.
3. The secretary said to Ben (that) his son had called. He was going to be in town next week.
↑ 間接話法の時は、動詞の時制を揃える
【新or使い慣れていない語彙】
・son [sʌn]
・timely：タイムリーな、時機の良い
ex) He declined the timely job offer.

・smooth like butter：うまくいく
ex) It went smooth like butter.

【 耳で聴いていてどちらの話法か判別するには “that" を省略しない方が分かりやすいか？】
目で文を見れば話法の違いが分かるが、耳で聴いているだけど分かりにくいな、と思い、そう質問した。
→ “that" は特に入れなくてよい。主語で分かる。
<直接話法>
He said to me, “I hate you.”
<間接話法>
He said (that) he hated me.
言われてみればそうだった。
【 “cerfiticate" と “certification" に違いはあるか？】
普段はいつも “certification" ばかり使ってきたが、今回は “Bitrth Certificate" が出てきたので質問。
→
“certification"
the noun of certifying something であり、 involves the process of being certified とのこと。
何と言うか概念的なもの
ex) Mom has received the certification of my birth at the maternity (hospital) when I was born.
ex) We has received the certification of our marriage by the priest at the church.
“certificate"
the paper of being certified, or of receiving the certification
紙ということ
ex) I need my birth certificate to apply for the visa.
納得した！
【 “to" と “in order to" の使い分け】
短く言いたい時は “to" で。カジュアルでも “in order to" と言って問題なし、とのこと。
レッスンの感想
他のトーク系のレッスンと比べて、文法なら初めての先生とでもいいだろうと思い、なんとなく初対面の先生のレッスンを受けたい気がして通常の講師リストを検索した。
たまたまアルバニアのA先生が空いていたのでお願いしてみた。
やっぱり休みの日は混んでいるのか、ちょっと映像がカクカクしていたが、最後まで通信が切れることはなくレッスンが出来た。
A先生は説明が上手だった。
色々質問したがどれも上手、かつ根気よく教えてくれ、特に “Certificate" の質問の回答はとても納得した。
全体的にちょっと淡々とした感じの先生ではあるが、良い先生だったのでお気に入りリストにも登録した。
ただ、今回のShort Conversationの内容はちょっと良く分からないと思った。
Benjaminの息子が、彼のおじさんの会社の仕事は予算的にダメだと言っていたのに、また予算がどうのと言っている、という出だし。
しかしそこからなぜか、息子は出生証明書を配送しているという話に跳ぶ。
そして最後は、息子が父とランチを食べたいんだけれど、父の秘書まで同席させる気だ、という〆。
？？？
私の理解が足りないだけかと思い、先生に説明してもらえないかなぁと思ったが、そんな時間は全く無いので諦めた。
まぁ、どうでもいいか・・・。
