What Should He Do?
【Example 友達の誕生パーティに呼ばれなかった：サンプル回答】
He should ask why he wasn’t invited. Maybe they are not really friends, or maybe it was just a mistake. But he should find out what his friend really thinks about him.
先生とコチラの共通意見として「いや、理由なんて訊けないよね・・・」
私が「自分一人で楽しくやるから別にいい」と言い、先生から言い方を習った。

He should ask his teacher why he got low grades.
He should tell his parents why he flunked a certain subject.
He should start to study harder and stop playing video games.
flunk：単位を落とす、失敗する [flʌ́ŋk]

He should try to talk to his mom and ask if she could spend the time to eat outside and celebrate his birthday with him.
He should ask his mom when she’s available so they can celebrate his birthday together.
自分の子供時代の同様のエピソードを話し、淡々というかアッサリ系の家族のことを上手く表現出来なかった。
レッスン後に調べてみたが、「ドライな性格」という日本語に合う英語はイマイチ無いらしい。
近いのは “not sentimental" とか？
「歳を重ねると誕生日なんかどうでも良くなる、というより忘れたい」と話したら、先生もそうだと言う。
まだめちゃめちゃ若いのに！
「アナタはまだまだ若いじゃないの、人生を楽しんで」とか、オバちゃんトークをしてしまった・・・。

自分の子供時代の話をし、「好奇心旺盛な」の形容詞が名詞とゴッチャになってしまった。
（形）好奇心旺盛な、好奇心が強い：curious [kjúəriəs]
ex) He is curious about her.
ex) I was a curious child.
（名）好奇心、詮索好き：curiosity [kjùriɑ́səti]
ex) She is full of curiosity.
ex) Curiosity killed the cat.(好奇心が強すぎると危ない目に合うかもしれない → 過剰な好奇心は身を滅ぼす)
【Q5：親が新しいスマホを買ってくれない：サンプル回答】
He should not force them if they really don’t want to buy him a new one. He should ask for the reason. Maybe his parents think there’s no special reason for him to get a new phone because his current phone still works well.

He should ask why he needs to borrow money.

He should refuse to let him borrow money if he thinks his friend is lying.
3つ目はシビアだなぁ。
私は別に友人が嘘をついているとか関係なく、「私なら貸さない」と先生に言い切った！

例えば、いつも読み上げ練習をしている「ベニスの商人」で言うと

※"on me" を付けると、今財布とかポケットにはない（他の場所にはある）という意味合いになるとのこと

【Q9 上司からビールを飲め飲めと迫られる：サンプル回答】
He should politely say that he doesn’t drink. If his boss insists, he can drink a little and excuse himself and join his other friends at the bar.
excuse oneself：席を外す
「日本じゃあるあるだよ」と先生に話し、「自分だったら、『いやいやそんな、あなたが私のボスなんですからどうぞお先に』と注ぎ返して飲ませる」と答えた。
でもどうも上手く説明できなかった気がする。
レッスン後にGoogle翻訳先生に訊いたら
“No, no, you’re my boss, so please go ahead."
って、そのまんま・・・。
【Q10 みんなの前で上司に怒られる：サンプル回答】
He should control his temper. He shouldn’t get angry but instead calmly accept his mistake then point out that the other person’s action is bad and is equivalent to bullying. It’s also necessary to just keep silent so he won’t lose his job if he talks back to his superior.
equivalent：同等の [ikwívələnt]
talk back：口答えをする
superior：目上の人、上司
なんて答えていいのか分かりづらい設問。
私は「みんなの前では平気なふりをして、帰宅してから泣こう」と言ったけれど、サンプル回答もそんな感じ・・・？
でも “point out that the other person’s action is bad and is equivalent to bullying." って、「いじめであることを指摘しよう」ってこと？
そんな大胆なこと出来ないよ・・・。
レッスンの感想
今回の教材も、いつもの通り複数回掛けてやっと終了。
まずは、お気に入りリストにずっと入っていつつも、人気があってなかなか取れなかったフィリピンのM先生。
前回は去年の9月だった。
かなり発音が綺麗で、コチラのしゃべることも一生懸命タイプしてくれたし、明るくてとてもいい先生だった。
もっと頻繁にレッスンが取れないのが残念。
テキパキとQ1～Q4をこなした。
次にQ5～Q8を、初めてのボスニア・ヘルツェゴビナのA先生。評価が★5つということで予約がいっぱいだったのに、偶然「いきなりレッスン」で取ることが出来た。
やっぱり評価が高いだけあって、所々の指摘とか訂正とか提案とか、細やかでとても良かった。
「あぁ、英語の勉強したな」って感じ。
最後のQ９とQ10はいつもおなじみ、お気に入りリストのセルビア・B先生。
いつものように目いっぱい雑談をしたのでこの2問でギリギリだった。まぁ時間配分としてはちょうど良かった。
それにしても今回の内容は、胸が痛むものが多かった。
友達のパーティーに自分だけ呼ばれていない・・・。
親が子供の誕生日を忘れている・・・。
みんなの前で上司に怒られる・・・。
なんだか切なかった。
