2022年1月のNHK語学講座
今月の英会話タイムトライアルの旅はTexas州
年が変わり、今年度のタイムトライアルもあと3か月となった。
次はTexas州。いつも観ている「町山智浩のアメリカの今を知るTV」で、ついこの間町山さんが結構色々とTexasを紹介していたのでちょうどいい。
まずは、とても役に立つ表現、「わざわざ」「さすがは」「せっかくですから」。
「せっかくですから」をタイムトライアルで習うのは3回か4回目くらいかな。お陰様で覚えました！
<わざわざ・はるばる come all the way>

また、"You don’t have to/need to come all the way to our office." は
It’s ok if you don’t ・・・
と置き換えられる

“Someone turned in my wallet to the police. That’s Japan for you!“ ※turn in ～：～を届ける

<せっかくですから might as well>

“I’m not big fan of spicy foods, but I might as well try Mexican food."
次の週は携帯電話の短期契約だった。
確かにねぇ、コレとっても重要なんだよねぇ。でも現地じゃこんなにシンプルに進めることは出来ないんだよ・・・店員さんからもっと色々なことをバババーーーッて訊かれてさ・・・全く分かんないんだな、これが（涙）

“I need to charge my phone." ※日本語の「しなきゃ」に近いのはneed to/’ve gotta

“Does this phone work in the U.S.?" ※in Americe / in the U.S.どちらでもよい。迷ったらUSの方で
“This phone has my apps and contacts."
“In Japan, I use a carrier called “ETT." ※通信事業者：carrier [kǽriər]

“When does the contract end?“
“How much extra are unlimited course?" ※かけ放題：unlimited course
“What do you usually use the phone for?" → “I text with this phone."
最後はロデオ絡み。ここで毎月恒例スティーブ先生の愉快な演技が登場。
カウガールに雄牛を撫でてみるよう言われ、「ヒョッホホホ～、ヒュー！（みたいな）」。
先生の演技力もだいぶ磨きがかかってきた！
