今月の英会話タイムトライアルの旅はIllinois州
今月はなんとも綴りが難しいIllinois州。大文字の “I" と小文字の “l" が被っちゃうと、実に見辛いし合っているんだか分からなくなる。
この州に住んでなくて良かった。
最初に出てきた病院絡みの会話は、生活上とても重要。
考えなくてもスラスラ出てきて欲しいのに、"〇〇 hurts.” というところを、どうしてもつい “It hurts 〇〇." と言ってしまう。
<病院探し>

“I’m going to the doctor’s office tomorrow morning." ※"hospital” は重大な内容の時
“What kind of doctor’s office is that?" 「何科ですか」
“I need to go to a hospital right away."
“I don’t have American insurance."
“I’m visiting Illinois."
“I have travel insurance."
<病院で>

“I have a slight fever."
“I have a terrible headache."
“I’ve had a cold since Monday."
“I’ve had a fever for 3 days."
“My left eye hurts."
“Where does it hurt?"
“It really hurts here（痛いところを示す)."
“I have a problem with my ears. My ears are ringing."
“I have a problem here. It’s really/very swollen."

海外では、病院より薬局薬店で薬を買うことの方が多いかも。
これもとても大事。
日本の「OTC薬」のOTCが何の略なのかこれで分かった。
<薬をもらう時（市販薬）>

“I’m looking for a cold medicine."
“Do you have stomach medicine?"

“I’d like some cream for a rash."

<薬をもらう時（処方箋）>

“Do you have a pharmacy in this grocery store?" ※普通の薬屋（調剤しない）が “drug store"
“What’s this prescription for?"
“I have a prescription for eye drops."
“This prescription is for hay fever. It’s from Dr. Boyle’s office."
“We have generic and regular medicine. Which would you like?" → “I’d like the regular one."
<薬の飲み方>

“Don’t take this medicine before bed."
“Don’t take this medicine on an empty stomach."
“How many pills should I take per day?"
そして今度はいきなりハロウィンの話題になった。
ジェニーさんの仮装がスティーブ先生だというのには笑った。
さらにその後の会話練習で桃太郎に仮装したというのにはビックリ。ジェ、ジェニーさんだよ・・・？
と思っていたら、スティーブ先生の仮装は浦島太郎だと言っていた。
なんか、某携帯電話のCMみたいだ
<ハロウィン関連の言い方、他>

“What day of the week is Halloween this year?" ※曜日：day of the week
“What day of the week was it again?"
「好きなものを尋ねる」
“What’s your favorite kind of candy?"
“What kind of candy do you like best?"

“My favorite is probably bubble gum."
“I’m not a big fan of candy but I like lollipops sometimes." ※ペロペロキャンディ：lollipop
“I don’t eat gummies very often." ※グミ：gummy
“I have a sweet tooth." 「甘党です」
スペシャルウィークは引き続きハロウィンにまつわる表現、そしてネイティブの人がしゃべる10秒チャレンジとジェニーさんが美しく歌う「スリラー」・・・だった。
<怖い・・・的な言い方>

“You tricked me."
“You fooled me."
“The trick is to start early." ※trick：コツ
“Can I give your dog a treat?"
“We have a real treat tonight." 「今夜は本当に豪華なゲストです」
“I’m scared of insects/bugs."
“Insects/Bugs are scary."
“I’m terrified of spiders."
最後はイディオムが色々。
知っていたのは “It’s raining cats and dogs." だけだった。
“Most people have one skeleton in a closet." 「ほとんどの人は恥ずかしい秘密を持っている」

“Curiosity killed the cat." 「好奇心が強すぎると危ない目に合うかもしれない」
“Don’t let the cat out of the bag." 「秘密を漏らしてはいけない」
“It’s raining cats and dogs." 「どしゃぶりです」
“(The) cat got your tongue." 「急に黙る」
“After the kids go to bed, I become a vampire shopper." ※vampire shopper：夜な夜なネットショッピングする人
遠山顕の英会話楽習は今月が最後
10月で終了というのは以前サイトで見て知っていた。
良い番組なのにもったいないと思うけれど、まぁ色々事情があるんでしょう。
ちょっとネットで調べると、惜しむ声がたくさんあった。
ロスを心配する人も。私で言う「タイムトライアル」だな。
最後のダイアログの回での「別の設定（In Another Situation）」で、英語学習者が新しい先生にアドバイスをもらう、というやり取りには笑った。
生徒：どうやったら上手になれますか？
先生：きみの英語は上手だよ
生徒：いえいえいえいえいえいえいえいえいえ、上手くしゃべれませんっ！！
それ、私だよ・・・・。
今後は、私にはレベルの高かったこの番組の内容を復習するようにしよう（やる気があれば）。
また復活してくれるといいね。
