NHK英会話タイムトライアル2022年度5月
今月は「趣味・特技」
今月は全体的にオンライン英会話レッスン練習用、という感じの内容だ。
まずは好きなことと好きではないことから。
好きな事、好きではない事

好きである
“I love the British countryside."
※田舎：ポジティブに言うならcountryside, 単純に状況を描写するならrural area
“I like challenging myself with new recipes."
“I like taking morning walks and enjoying nature."
“I like this café’s atmosphere."
※moodを使うのは自分の気分 I’m (not) in the mood for、場所の雰囲気はatmosphereかambience
※ambience：〔ある場所が醸し出す独特の〕雰囲気、周囲の環境、ムード [ǽmbiəns]
好きではない
“I don’t really like spicy foods."
※I don’t like ～ very much だと最後を聞くまであまり好きでないことが伝わらないのでI don’t really like ～ が良い
〇〇派
「私は〇〇派」は以前スティーブ先生から習って以来、超絶ベンリなので英会話の中で何でもかんでもコレで表現している。
今回は、新しく「どちらかと言うと」の表現が付け加わってパワーアップした！

※stay up late：夜更かしをする
類似の慣用表現
“I have a sweet tooth."
（どうしてもteethと混同してしまう。また、toothが単数形、teethが複数形も覚えられない。春日くんが指を１本（単数）立てて「トゥース！」をやっているイメージで覚えることにした。）
興味がある・やりたい
次の “be into" と “be interested in" の使い分けは、いまだに完全に身に付いていない感じ。
スティーブ先生は日本の文房具にintoだそうだ。

“I’m into J-pop mostly, but I don’t listen to it regularly."
“I’m not really into dancing."
誘う・やりたい・やりたくない（be interested in ～）
“Are you interested in going to a Yoga class tomorrow?"
“Which class are you interested in taking?“
才能がある
タイムトライアルで習ったことのない表現が出てきた。「才能がある」。
例えば、スティーブ先生が “have a talent for languages" で、ジェニーさんが “have a talent for music"。

“I don’t have any talent for music at all."
きちんと学ぶ、ちょっとかじる・やる
「きちんと学ぶ」「ちょっとかじった」も初めて習う表現。
自分で使うなら・・・
“I don’t have any talent for cook at all. Furthermore, I’ve never formally learned how to cook.
That’s why I’m terrible at cooking…😔"

いつも～をする
次は、普段することを説明。英会話レッスンで毎回のように訊かれたり自己紹介で話したりするアレ。
でも “usually" と “always" がどうしてもゴッチャになってしまう・・・。

“What do you usually do on weekends?"
“I usually sleep in (late)." ※sleep in：朝寝坊する、寝過ごす
“In my free time, I usually listen to audio books."
always（いつもする）
“On Sundays, I always spend time with my family."
その他
“Every Sunday, we have a nice meal together."
“I don’t have very much free time lately."
趣味
次は「趣味」。
以前「趣味に “hobby" は使わない」と学んだので “hobby" は使わないようにしていた。でも今回、意外と使われていたのであれっ？と思った。
あまり使わないとは言え、ゼロというわけではないと分かった。

“Do you have any hobbies?“
※"What’s your hobby?" はよくない（趣味のない人もいるから）
“Gardening is a hobby of mine."
“I like mountain climbing, but it’s just a hobby of mine."
“I don’t have any particular hobbies."
相手を褒める表現
そして最後が、こちらもまた良く使う、相手を褒める表現。
“Great job" の言い方を練習したけれど、このフレーズを聞くと、即座にジェニーさんの声でいつもの “Great job, everyone!" が頭の中に蘇ってくる。
10年も聞いているとこうなるという・・・。
