Recently, Christmas events are increasing every weekend in my town. This weekend as well, there was an event that the makers of craft products gathered together and sold their handcrafted Christmas goods.
This winter is rare for me as I am staying overseas. So, I am thinking of a short trip to see the Christmas festivals in a big city. Many of those, which were cancelled last year, will be held again this year. It would be a good chance to have fun.
Yet, I will give up if it gets too cold…

【 習ったポイント】
＜think of /about の違い＞
上記の通り自分の文章を訂正してもらった際、"think of" が “think about" に修正されたので、前置詞の違いは何なのかを訊いた。
先生はとても説明しづらそうで、チャットボックスに
“The main difference between of and about is that the preposition of implies a possessive quality while the preposition about implies concerning or on the subject of something."
“Of expresses the relationship of a part of something to its whole. It is the most used preposition in English."
とコピペしてくれたけれど、チンプンカンプンだった。
先生が言っていることからなんとなく「こんな感じですかね」と以下のように打った。
ex) I’m thinking of a short trip. / I’m thinking of a party.
ex) I’m thinking about taking a short trip. / I’m thinking about having a party.
先生は「そうそう」と言っていたので、名詞→of、動名詞→aboutか、と理解した。
しかしレッスン後に調べてみるとそういうことではなく、
think of ～：～のことをピンポイントで考える
think about ～：～やその関連した周囲のことを全体的に考える
ということらしい。
レッスンの感想
予約無料になっている新しいネイティブ講師のアメリカ・A先生のレッスンを受けた。
Native Campを始めて以来、予約の無いレッスンの自由さを満喫してしまっているので本当は予約レッスンはめんどくさいけれど、今日は疲れていたので予約がなかったらレッスンを受けなかったかもしれない（いや、絶対受けなかった）。
予約はやっぱりサボリ防止にはいいね。
A先生は自己紹介どころか “Nice to meet you" もなく、いきなり「Free Conversaiontってことで、何をするの？」と訊くのでちょっと面食らい、おしゃべりはやめて早速日記を持ち出した。
いつもと違い日記のほぼ全てを修正されたのは、さすがネイティブだなぁ・・・と思う。
これがいつもの先生たちだったら、いつものように「うん、よく書けているよ、バッチリ👍」ってな感じでスルーだったかもしれない。
修正された文章はどれも非常に素直なので、「あぁ、こういう風に書くべきだなぁ」ととても参考になった。
しかし文法はやっぱりネイティブには質問しちゃダメだ。
英語で解説されても分からない。結局レッスン後に日本語サイトで調べて納得。
あまりおしゃべりが得意な先生ではなさそうで、日記修正後もあまり話が弾まずシーンという時間が出来てコチラが焦ってしまった。
相性がイマイチだったかな。
